E’ partita ai primi di agosto l’attività del Centro diurno di Domnak Chamboak nella provincia di Kep in Cambogia.

At the beginning of August the activity of the Center in Domnak Chamboak, Kep Province, had its kickoff.

Il Centro accoglie i bambini del villaggio e di altri due villaggi vicini, complessivamente ad oggi 191 bimbi/e e ragazzi/e. 50 troveranno supporto direttamente nel centro mentre per i rimanenti 141 è stato avviato un programma di Sostegno a Distanza.

The Center hosts the children of the village and those from two other nearby villages, for a total of 191 kids at the end of August. 50 of these kids will find support directly in the center, while the remaining 141 will be supported through a Distant Adoption Program.

A Smile for Cambodia Onlus è principale sostenitore del progetto, e attraverso l’attività operativa in loco dell’organizzazione nostra corrispondente Shade for Children NGO e dei nostri volontari che andranno laggiù, si propone di dare un forte sostegno all’area rurale ed al territorio. Gli interventi previsti per l’attività del Centro sono il supporto educativo e scolastico, con educazione sui diritti e sulle buone pratiche igienico sanitarie, con l’insegnamento della lingua inglese (ormai fondamentale per qualsiasi sviluppo anche in Cambogia) e il supporto post scolastico sulla lingua Khmer e sulle materie insegnate nelle ore di lezione (le classi in Cambogia sono molto numerose e gli insegnanti non riescono a dare supporto a chi non riesce a stare al passo con l’insegnamento impartito durante l’orario scolastico ordinario). Sono previste anche lezioni di inglese per gli adulti, solitamente tenute nei fine settimana.

A Smile for Cambodia Onlus is the main supporter of the project and aims at giving strong support to the local community, through the work of its correspondent organization Shade for Children NGO and through a volunteer program from Italy. The activities that are being performed entail educational and school support, with specific work on teaching children’s rights and safe hygienic and sanitary practices, lessons of english language (now more than ever a must for any future development and social enhancement also in Cambodia), integrative support on Khmer language teaching and school subjects in general (classes in cambodia are very crowded and the teachers seldom have the possibility to give support to the students who cannot follow the pace during ordinary school time). The center also provides english language lessons for adults, usually during weekends.

Sokkea, il responsabile di Shade for Children e del progetto, ci ha confermato che la partenza è stata sprint, con grande entusiasmo sia da parte dei bambini che delle famiglie e delle autorità locali.

Sokkea, the President of Shade for Children and responsible for the project, confirmed that the center had a “head on” start, with great enthusiasm from children and parents alike, and from local authorities.

Ben venga questa partenza, che ci entusiasma tutti e ci dà ragione della scelta di intraprendere questo impegnativo progetto.  Ma l’entusiasmo non deve distrarre il senso di responsabilità che dobbiamo avere per un progetto per noi così articolato e complesso. Un progetto che deve necessariamente avere un respiro di lungo termine ed essere il seme per far fiorire le attività spontanee e l’operatività della comunità locale e stimolare i giovani a cogliere l’opportunità che viene loro data con questo aiuto.

We are very happy to hear this, and are enthusiastic about this initial outcome, that confirms the reasons that guided our choice to take up such a challenging project. But enthusiasm must not divert our attention from our responsibilities and from the challenges that lay in front of us for such an articulate and complex project. A project that must have a long term outlook and should become the seed that grows into the development of local activities in the community and must act as a powerful input for the young to take advantage of the opportunities that are offered to them through this initiative.

E parimenti, massimo deve essere il nostro impegno come organizzazione per sostenere, in quest’ottica, un progetto così importante.

Our commitment as organization and main sponsor must be at its highest in order to adequately support such an important project. 

Abbiamo bisogno di tutto il vostro aiuto e supporto per non tradire le aspettative che già in questo primo mese di operatività si sono create attorno alla nostra attività laggiù.

We need all the help we can get in order to fulfil the expectations that the activity of the center already raised in just one month of work.

Per questo siamo particolarmente grati a coloro che continuano a sostenerci.

For this reason we are particularly grateful to all the friends that keep on supporting us.

Un grazie particolare va ai novelli sostenitori delle adozioni a distanza (noi preferiamo il termine Sostegno a Distanza). Al momento abbiamo 26 profili di bambini tra i 6 e i 13 anni, 19 dei quali già abbinati a sostenitori; per altri 2 stiamo aspettando conferma, mentre per 5 siamo alla ricerca di una mamma e un papà a distanza.

A special thanks goes to our friends that are already supporting kids through our Distant Adoption Program. At present we have received 26 profiles of kids between the ages of 6 and 13. 19 have already been matched with a sponsor; for 2 of them we are waiting for confirmation from prospect sponsors; 5 are still waiting to find their godparents. 

Questa è la prima pattuglia di un folto numero di sostegni che vorremmo completare per assicurare un minimo di tranquillità ai bimbi e alle loro famiglie ed evitare il rischio di abbandono scolastico, oltre che dare supporto a situazioni (generali) di povertà o di malattia. Nelle prossime settimane saranno in arrivo altri 32 profili ed il progetto finale prevede che si arrivi ad un totale di 141 Sostegni a Distanza .

This is the first group of a much larger number of Distant Adoption Programs that we would like to complete in the next few months, in order to give adequate support to children and families alike and prevent school dropping due to poverty situations (often made worse by health problems in the family). In the next weeks we will be receiving 32 more profiles and the final aim is to find godparents for a total of 141 children.

Si torna a bomba su quanto già detto per il centro. Il progetto è sicuramente ambizioso e di grande stimolo, ma richiede tutte le energie che la nostra associazione può esprimere. E per questo abbiamo sempre bisogno di tutti voi che ci seguite.

So once again we go back to what we said above for the activity of the center. The project is ambitious and challenging in every positive and possible way, and it thus puts on us the responsibility to activate all the resources that our association can express. For this to be effective we strongly need the support from all of you out there.
