Dopo la stanchezza del viaggio, una notte molto agitata, almeno finché non ha suonato la sveglia e poi sono piombata nel sonno svegliandomi appena in tempo per salvare l’ iPad da una caduta rovinosa dal letto, la  doccia, colazione e l’appuntamento con Mr Yoeurn che stamattina mi accompagna a fare i miei commissioni. / Following the fatigue of the journey, a bad night, at least until the alarm went off, then I fell asleep waking-up just in time to stop the iPad taking a bad fall off the bed, shower, breakfast and ready for my appointment with Mr Yoeurn who will accompany me on my shopping expedition.

Partenza dopo avere trattato il costo del tuk-tuk di 8$ per la mattinata. Prima fermata per comperare un sim card Cambogiano, non semplice, in particolare quando in negozio ci sono persone che comperano tre cellulare! Chi paga 4$ per un sim card aspetta. Prossima fermata negozio delle fotocopie e  lasciamo li il lavoro visto che sono 2250 da fare! Poi alla mega negozio di libri e giocattoli. Povero Yoeurn, è stato molto paziente mentre giravo piano per piano acquistando flash cards, dizionari, puzzle, maschera da colorare e palloncini già in previsione della festa a termine della missione. Non che voglio arrivare già alla fine ma a Kep non ci sono negozi che vendano mercé del genere. Poi per me, un ombrella, due poncho per la pioggia è una lampada per leggere. So già che la luce nella camera a Kep non va bene per leggere. Torniamo a prendere le fotocopie $ 22 per 2250 copie, incredibile. Ritorniamo in albergo, saluto Youern e portiamo gli acquisti in camera. / Left after fixing the price of 8$ with the tuk-tuk driver for the morning. First stop to buy a SIM card, more complicated than it might sound, in particularly when the shop is full and somebody is buying three cell phones! Somebody buying a 4$ SIM card just has to wait! Next stop the photocopy shop. Dropped the work off as there are 2250 copies to make. On to the mega book and toy shop. Poor Yoeurn waited patiently carrying the basket with the goods as I went from floor to floor buying flash cards, dictionaries, puzzles, masks to colour and balloons for my leaving party. It’s not that I want to leave already but there are no shops with this type of thing in Kep. For me I bought an umbrella, two light poncho raincoats and a reading lamp because I know that the light in my room in Kep is not good for reading. Back to pick up the photocopies, $22 for 2250 copies, incredible. Return to the hotel and thank Youern for his help. Hotel staff take everything up to my room.

Veloce rinfresco e sono ancora in strada, questa volta diretta verso il Russian Market. Non devo ancora fare acquisti ma voglio avvisare il nostro solito fornitore del mio arrivo ed essere sicura che avrà la merce che mi serve per quando torno da Kep. Dopo una bella chiacchierata ed un appuntamento per il mio giorno di acquisti ho fatto un giro fra le strette passaggi pieno di gente del mercato. Cercando una zona meno affollata mi sono trovata fra le bancarelle delle sarte e li ho trovato una cosa che cerco da due anni; il filo per fare le braccialetti dell’amicizia. Alcune delle ragazze del centro,  capeggiate dalla “mia” Theara fanno queste braccialetti quando riescano a trovare il filo. Adesso hanno abbastanza per tenerli occupati per un anno, nel tempo libero logicamente. / Quick freshen up and I’m out on the road again, this time in the direction of the Russian market. I don’t need to buy anything but I want to let our usual sales girl know I’m here and make sure they will have the goods I need when I get back from Kep. After a good natter and making an appointment for my shopping expedition I wandered round the narrow busy passageways of the market. Looking for a less crowded area I find myself in the dressmakers zone and found something I have been looking for these last two years; thin coloured strings to make friendship bracelets. Some of the girls in the center, headed by “my” Theara, make these bracelets when they can find the material, now they have enough to keep them busy for a year, in their spare time of course.

Una volta uscita, considerando che non si capisce quasi mai dove si esce, ho fatto il giro tondo del mercato, fotografando curiosità e rifiutando con un sorriso gli autisti dei tuk-tuk che sanno che risponderò che ho già un tuk-tuk, il che è anche sempre vero. Pausa pranzo al mio cafe preferito è  poi chiamo il tuk-tuk driver e per il mio grande sollievo lo riconosco quando arriva. Sì perché cerco sempre di individuare qualcosa del mezzo o dell’autista perché sono veramente tanti e sono anche capaci di dirti che il tuo è andato via lasciando istruzioni a loro di portarti in albergo. Basta dire, ridendo, che non ci credi e ridano tutti per poi prendere in giro quello vero quando arriva. È quello vero arriva sempre anche perché paghi solo al ritorno. / Once outside, taking into consideration that it is difficult to understand exactly where you are coming out, I walked all round the outside of the market, taking photos of anything curious and refusing, with a smile, the tuk-tuk drivers who already know I will answer that I already have a tuk-tuk, which is usually true.
Pause for lunch in my favourite cafe and then I call my tuk-tuk driver and to my relief recognise him when he arrives. Because I always try to pick out something recognisable either in the tuk-tuk or the driver because there really are a lot of them and they are quite capable of telling you your driver had to leave and asked them to take you back to your hotel. All it takes is to laugh and say you don’t believe it then they all laugh teasing your real driver when he arrives. They really do come back because you don’t pay until you get back to the hotel.

La giornata non è finito ma io quasi si, inoltre devo cercare di compattare il bagaglio. Oltre alle due valigie che pesavano 18 kg e mezzo e lo zaino, adesso ho una scatola di risme di fotocopie e tre borse della spesa. Poveri i ragazzi dell’albergo che domattina dovranno portare tutto alla machina.
Ecco l’avventura di 006 e mezzo è iniziato per la seconda volta quest’anno. Come mi ha detto stamattina un signore Australiano che lavora per uno dei più grande NGO nel mondo “della Cambogia ci si innamora”. Ha ragione. / The day isn’t finished but I almost am, also I have to try to compact my luggage. As well as the two suitcases that together weigh just over 18 kg, my rucksack, I now have a whole box of photocopies, and three shopping bags. Poor hotel boys who will have to carry it all down to the car tomorrow. So here 006 and a half’s adventure starts for the second time this year. As an Australian who worked for a very big NGO said this afternoon “you fall in love with Cambodia” . He’s right.
