Ore 7,30 sono la prima persona a fare colazione.  Alle 8,30 Mr Dom mi aspetta. Ma guarda, la strada di quattro corsie che va da Kep alla rotonda del Cavallo Bianco, circa 5 km.  e finito! Quasi non ci credo. L’avevano iniziato nel lontano 2013 quando ero qui in ferie e da allora è stato un continuo asfaltare, tirare su e rifare, perché non lo so a parte il fatto che in un punto si erano dimenticati di Inserire dei grossi tubi per far passare un piccolo fiume. Ma adesso è finito, mai più I sussulti e polvere di prima. Hurra. / 7,30 am and I’m the first in for breakfast. At 8,30 Mr. Dom is waiting for me. But look, the four lane road that goes from Kep to the White Horse roundabout, about 5 km is finished! I can hardly believe it. It was started in far away 2013 when I  first came as a tourist, and since then it has been a continual tarmacking taking up and re-doing, why I don’t know except that at one point they had forgotten to lay big pipes to allow a small river to pass under. But now it’s finished no more bumpy dusty rides! Hurray!

E strano arrivare al Centro senza la corsa dei bambini per portarmi lo zaino ma adesso ci sono solo I piccoli alla mattina, e sono troppo piccoli per uscire, poi non mi conoscano ancora e quando arrivò e l’ora della pausa perché iniziano  alle  7 e stanno giocando. Passo la mattina fra assistere alla lezione dei piccoli e parlare con Channa di vari lavori da fare. / It’s strange arriving at the Center with no children running to take my rucksack but now there are only the small children in the morning, they are too young to come out and anyway they don’t know me yet and when I arrive it is break time because they start at 7 am and they are playing. I pass the morning sitting in on the small children’s lesson and talking with Channa about  work to be done.

Nel primo pomeriggio passo da una classe all’altro solo per assistere ma anche a volte per intromettermi, e più forte di me. Dall’anno scorso sono cambiate tre insegnante ma anche il metodo d’insegnamento. Prima usavano libri che sceglievano specificamente adesso stanno usando le stesse libri della scuola statale con l’intenzione di rinforzare quello che studiano a scuola. Per me è nuovo e dovrò entrare in punta di piedi. Sono abituata ad Insegnare a modo mia ma non ho intenzione e di sconvolgere la sistema. / In the first half of the afternoon I pass from one class to another assisting and sometimes butting in, I can’t resist it. Three teachers have been changed since last year and also the teaching method. Before they used books chosen specifically now they are using the same books as the state school with the intention of strengthening what the children study at school. This is new for me and I’ll have to learn to enter the system on tip-toe. I am used to teaching with my methods but I have no intention of rocking the boat.

Nella seconda parte del pomeriggio abbiamo tenuto una riunione con lo staff. Ho dovuto spiegare chi fosse, per il beneficio delle insegnate nuovi, poi loro hanno fatto lo stesso con me. Ho spiegato il mio metodo d’insegnamento e chiesto la loro comprensione e di non offendersi se ho modi diversi dai loro e di non avere paura di me anche se sono molto più vecchia, non, sono più grande. Beh siamo sinceri, sono entrambi. Poi ci siamo messi d’accordo per fare lezioni d’inglese anche a loro. Più difficili quest’anno perché ho tre che sono già abbastanza avanzate e due che non sano niente ma vogliano iniziare. Inoltre l’anno scorso iniziavamo alle 11 quando finiscano le lezione per la pausa pranzo ma quest’anno due delle insegnati insegnano alla scuola primaria alla mattina allora non fanno in tempo ad arrivare e volevano che rimanevo dopo le 17. Ho chiesto clemenza. Durante l’intervallo sono qui da sola per due ore e mezzo, non ho voglia di rimanere fino alle 18 quando sarebbe già quasi buio. Allora siamo arrivati ad un compromesso, dalle 12,30 alle 13,30. Due lezioni la settimana per I due principiante e tre per le avanzate. Ho continuato parlando con Sokkea delle visite alle case dei bambini che vorrei fare e anche di portare I bambini al mare ed alcuni a pranzo. Albergo, doccia, bucato, cena, letto. Alle 10,30! Forse per quello che alle 4,30 ero sveglia a mandare mail chilometriche. / In the second half of the afternoon we had a staff meeting. I had to explain who I am for the  benefit of the new teachers then they did the same for me. I explained my teaching methods and asked their comprehension and not to feel offended if they differ from their own and not to fear me just because I am much older, no, much bigger. Oh well, let’s be sincere, both. Then we agreed on their English lessons. A little more difficult from last year as there are three fairly advanced students and two practical beginners who want to start. Also last year we started at 11 o’clock when the lessons finish for the lunch break but this year two of the teachers teach at the state school in the morning can’t make it on time. They wanted me to start at 5pm but I begged mercy. During the lunch break I’m here for two and a half hours on my own so don’t want to stay until 6pm when it will be almost dark. So we arrived at a compromise from 12,30 till 13,30. Two lessons a week for the beginners and three for the more advanced. I continued talking with Sokkea about the home visits I need to do and also about taking the children to the seaside and some out for a meal. Hotel, shower, washing, supper, bed. At 10,30lm. That’s probably why I was awake at 4,30 writing very long e.mails!
