E si arriva sempre l’ultimo giorno purtroppo. C’erano pochi ragazzi perché era l’inizio del Capodanno Cinese allora dopo avere fatto una lezione su “questa è l’ultimo giorno di Jane” ho tirato fuori i giochi nuovi per i quali impazziscano / oh yes the last day always arrives unfortunately. There weren’t many children as it was Chinese New Year so after doing a lesson on “today is Jane’s last day” I got out the new games for which they go mad.

Alla fine della mattinata, quando si sono accorti che veramente non ci sarei stata il giorno dopo è neanche quello dopo c’è stato un po di sgomento. Poi una delle ragazze ha strappato un foglio dal quaderno e scritto “I love Jane”. Quando l’ho abbracciato tante hanno fatto la stessa cosa, perfino i ragazzi, li porterò a casa per custodire gelosamente. I Cambogiani non dimostrano facilmente i sentimenti e in pubblico di solito non si toccano. Il saluto e con i mani congiunti è un piccolo inchino. Ma  questi bambini hanno imparato a dare abbracci fortissimi e fanno a gara chi rimane attaccato più a lungo e chi ne fa di più! / At the end of the morning session when they realised that I really wouldn’t be there the following day or the one after that there was a moment of disbelief, then one of the older girls tore a page out of her exercise book and wrote “I love Jane” when I gave her a big hug a lot of the others followed suit, even the boys. I will take them all home and keep them with great care. Cambodians don’t easily show their feelings in public or even touch each other. To say hello in an educated way they put their hands together and do a little bow. But these children have learnt to give strong hugs and have competitions at who can hug longest, strongest and most often.

Il nuovo lavandino e quasi finito. Manca l’acqua è un rialzo in modo che i bambini più piccoli riescano ad arrivare ai rubinetti. / The new wash basin is almost finished. Only the water is missing and a step so that the smaller children can reach the taps.

È così in un lampo anche questa avventura è finito. Quando mi hanno chiesto quando torno o solo potuto rispondere, presto, il più presto possibile. / So in a flash this adventure is coming to a close. When they asked me when will I be back I could only answer soon, as soon as possible.
