Torniamo ad una giornata di routine. / Back to the normal routine.

Stamattina in compagnia di Mr. Dom sono andata a ritirare delle ciotole che avevo ordinato al mercato locale. Avevo chiesto 150 delle ciotole migliore alcuni giorni fa. Stamattina pensavo di trovarli pronti ma c’era una scatola nuova e la signora della bancarella stavo riempiendo una seconda passando da bancarella a bancarella per racimolare il numero richiesto. È riuscita ad arrivare a 134. Mi bastano. L’idea era di regalarli ai bambini in occasione della mia festa di partenza, ma Sokkea mi ha detto che aveva intenzioni di comperare ciotole, cucchiai per tenere al centro, perché quando facciamo un festa troppi bambini si dimenticano di portare una ciotola e anche se questi li diamo a loro probabilmente succederà ancora. Visto che le ciotole erano meno di quelli richiesti e che Sokkea mi avevano anche chiesto se avevo ordinato cucchiai ho deciso di comperare i cucchiai. Fra tutto. 134 ciotole della migliore qualità, per qui, e 134 cucchiai ho pagato $ 85 più  2000 riel, circa $0,50.! Ringrazio tutte le persone amici, che mi hanno affidato dei soldi proprio per aiutare queste bambini. Sapete che una parte è stato speso per questo. Il resto sarà più divertente! / This morning I in company of Mr. Dom I went to pick up the bowls I had ordered at the local market. I had  asked for 150 of the best quality bowls a few days ago. This morning I thought I would find them already but there was one new unopened box and the lady from the stall was going from stall to stall to arrive at the required quantity. She managed to put together 134. That will do me. My idea was to give then as a present to the children at my leaving party, but Sokkea told me he had been thinking of buying bowls and spoons to keep in the center because when we have parties too many children forget to bring their bowls and even if we give them these to take home it will probably still happen. Considering the bowls were a minor quantity to those I had anticipated I decided to buy some spoons as well. All in all with 134 of the best quality bowls and 134 metal spoons I paid $ 85 plus 200 riel, equal to $ 0,50. Thanks to all my friends who trusted me with a contribution, this is what some of the money has been spent on, I promise you the rest will be more entertaining.

Ora che avevamo, o almeno Dom aveva, messo scotch intorno alle scatole e contate i cucchiai ed io avevo pagato mi stavo chiedendo perché mi ero preoccupata di fare la doccia stamattina. Il sudore mescolato con spray anti zanzare forza tropicale che rischi di gocciolarti negli occhi non è bello. / Now that we, or more precisely Mr. Dom had taped up the boxes and counted out the spoons and I had paid I was asking myself why I had bothered having a shower this morning. Risking sweat mixed with tropical mosquitos spray dripping into your eyes is not pleasant.

Ripartiamo, molto lentamente. Anche senza le ciotole, la strada che porta al mercato e di terra battuta è pieno di buchi. Prossima fermata il meccanico per la bicicletta. Scendo anche io. Il meccanico, naturalmente, è un amico di Dom. Guardiamo tutto il lavoro fatto: nuova gomma dietro, altri pezzi nuovi su i pedali e altri giunture. Una sella nuova. Ma facciamo pompare un po la gomma davanti e siccome non c’è e mi costa solo $3 di più faccio aggiungere un cestino davanti.  Soddisfatta pago i miei $ 14 più 2000 riel (sempre i 2000 riel) e partiamo per il Centro. / We set off again, very slowly. Even without the dishes the road to the market is a dirt road full of holes. Next stop was at the mechanics for the bicycle. I get out too, naturally the mechanic is a friend of Mr. Dom’s. We take a look at the work that has been done. New back tyre, new pieces on the pedals and other working parts. New saddle. But we get him to pump up the front tyre and as it will only cost me $3 I get them to put on a carrier basket in front. Satisfied I pay my $14 and 2000 riel (always 2000 riel) and off we set for the Center.

Quando arrivò la bambina di Channa è bella che addormentata in terra nel bel mezzo dell’ufficio.
Lezione d’inglese senza TV perché mi sembra troppo difficile portarlo nella biblioteca. I bambini sono un po delusi ma si accontentano di “head, shoulders, knees and toes” ed ancora di più di “row, row, row the boat” questa canzone sta andando alla grande, sarà per gli urli e ruggiti. / When I arrived Channa’s little girl was fast asleep in the middle of the office floor. English lesson without television as I think it is too difficult to take it there. The children are a little disappointed but I made up for it with a round of “head,shoulders,knees and toes” and even better “row, row, row the boat” this song seems the favourite, could be because of the screams and roars!

Niente filmati per la lezione agli insegnanti ma stanno andando alla grande anche se Kimlan ha dovuto andare a casa perché suo papà è malato. / No films for the teachers lessons but they are doing fine, even though today Kimlan had to go home because her father is ill.

Non ho bisogno che mi portano il caffè oggi, vado al bar con Sokkea, così possiamo anche parlare di lavoro. Progressi, progetti, richiesti da parte di A Smile for Cambodia. Quando torno in Italia dovrò fare un report dettagliato al capo! / I don’t need them to bring me coffee today as I go to the bar with Sokkea, that way we can talk of work. Programs, projects, information requested by A Smile for Cambodia. When I get back to Italy. my boss will want a detailed report.

Torniamo un po in ritardo, la conversazione è stato lunga e dettagliata. La mia classe mi sta attendendo con pazienza. Per farmi perdonare faccio portare la TV e vediamo tutte le canzoni su verbi d’azione, di seguito li faccio scrivere. E più facile con i filmati, vedono e capiscano meglio gli azioni. / We arrive back late, the conversation was long and detailed. My class is waiting for me patiently. To beg their forgiveness I get them to wheel the television out and we watch all the songs about action verbs, followed but writing them down. It’s easier with cartoons, they can see and understand the actions better.

Durante l’intervallo faccio lavorare Channa per darmi i nomi dei bambini SAD agli quali ho fatto le foto. Così stasera posso mandarli in Italia per essere girati ai loro sponsor. / During the break I get poor Channa to work giving me the names of the SAD children I have taken photos of. That way this evening I can send them off to Italy where in turn they will be sent to the children’s sponsors.

La classe dei piccoli mostri. Si sono piccoli mostri. L’inglese è praticamente a livello zero, sono tanti e si distraggano, in più mi prendano in giro. Oggi li sistemo io. La TV cambia aula. Ma quanto silenzio. Quanto attenzione nel guardare i filmati. Diminuisci un po quando torniamo a la solita lezione dal libro. Devo confiscare due fogli di disegno perché disegnano invece di ascoltare. Lo faccio con una faccia severa, ma gli altri capiscano che non faccio sul serio e ridano anche se faccio segno di non farlo. A la fine della lezione restituisco i fogli ed i colpevoli ringraziano ridendo. In questo gruppo c’è il bambino che avevamo visitato ieri, quello che dormivo. Stento di riconoscerlo oggi è proprio un birichino.
Consegno anche la bicicletta. La bambina sembra un po sorpresa. Sokkea interviene e spiega cos’e stato fatto alla bici e lei è tutto sorrisi e mani giunti. Spiego che stasera può andare a casa in bici ed è tutta felice. / My class of little monsters. Yes they are little monsters. English is practically at ground level, there are a lot of them and they don’t pat attention, on top of that they tease me.  Today I intend getting the better of them. The television changes classroom once more.  What silence. What attention while watching the films. It diminishes when we go back to the usual lesson from the book.
I have to confiscate two drawing sheets as they are drawing not listening. I do it with a very severe face   But the other children know I am joking and laugh even though I I shake my head to tell them not to. At the end of the lesson I give the papers back to the misdemeanours who laugh and thank me. The little boy we visited yesterday who was asleep the second time is in this group, I hardly recognise him he is so full of mischief. I present the girl with her mended bicycle. She looks surprised. Sokkea joins us and explains what we have done to the bicycle and she is all smiles and hands joined in thank you and she is very happy.

Si fa tardi ed i bambini non fanno segno di andare a casa. Mr. Dom è già arrivato allora decido di andare via in sordina, magari eviterò lo stritolamento quotidiana. Figuriamoci. Appena mi vedano con lo zaino in spalla arrivano  è quasi mi buttano per terra. Meno male, sinceramente non vorrei andare via senza questo segno d’affetto da parte loro. / It’s getting late and the children make no sign of going home. Mr. Dom has already arrived and I decide to sneak away, maybe I cam avoid the days squeezing. You’re joking! As soon as they see me with my rucksack on my back they come running and nearly knock me over. Thank goodness, I sincerely wouldn’t have wanted to leave without this sign of their affection.
