Non siamo andati a visitare le case oggi perché Channa non sapeva se sarei venuta o no. Quando sono arrivati I piccoli stavano facendo la merenda con un tipico dolce che a me piace molto. Se ho capito bene fanno cuocere tantissimo il riso con zucchero finché diventa quasi una colla densa. Poi lo mettano in porzioni su un foglio di banana, nel centro mettano del noce di cocco trita e fanno un pacchetto legato sempre con una striscia preso dal foglio di banana. Si raffredda e rassoda e quando si scarta dalla foglia di banana e un gustoso, colloso dolce. Certo I bambini ed il tavolo erano ben sporchi alla fine della merenda allora via a lavare le mani e pulire I denti. / We didn’t go on home visits today as Channa was not sure I would come or not. When I arrived the little ones were having their snack a typical sweet That I like a lot. If I have understood correctly they cook the rice with sugar for a long time until it becomes a thick gluey consistency. It is then placed in portions on banana leaves, grated coconut is placed in the middle and they make a parcel tying it with a strip of the banana leaf. It cools and hardens and when the parcel is opened  you have a tasty, sticky sweet. Certainly the children and table were in a mess when they had finished break so off to wash their hands and teeth.

E stato una giornata piena d’attività. L’aula provvisoria va avanti con l’aiuto dei ragazzi che alla fine degli lezioni hanno aiutato a portare I fogli, già infilati su pezzi di bambù che servirà per fare il tetto. / It has been a day full of activity. The provisory classroom is going ahead with the help of the kids who after lessons helped carry in the leaves, already mounted on bamboo poles that will be used to make the roof.

Era anche la giornata della visita mensile dei medici. I più piccoli l’affrontano per la prima volta e un po’ di paura c’è. Vengano pesati, misurati in altezza, sentito I polmoni e misurato la pressione, che è un po’ da ridere perché la macchinetta e troppo grande per I loro polsi esili e deve per forza essere posizionato più in alto, che a dire il vero non è più grande del polso. Poi via tutti con le pasticche di vitamina C e viene completato la loro scheda. Sotto un altro. / It was also the day for the doctors monthly visit. The little ones were facing it for the first time and were a little afraid. They are weighed, measured in height, their lungs listened to and blood pressure measured. This is a bit of a laugh because the instrument for measuring it is too big to go round their tiny wrists so it is positioned higher up the arm, which quite honestly isn’t much bigger than their wrists. Then off they go with vitamin C tablets in their hands. Their form is filled in and on to the next one.

Ma l’evento più grande era l’arrivo da Phnom Penh di Solida friend of Sokkeas’ and a long time friend of Shade for Children. Era venuta a concludere l’acquisto del terreno che confina con la nostra. In pratica ha comperato il campo confinante con il nostro ed un altro sopra quello. Poi ci ha venduto la metà del campo confinante. Sembra complicato ma in realtà non lo è. Ma la burocrazia lo era, anche se sorprendentemente veloce. Mi è stato permesso ad assistere. Insieme a Solida e Sokkea come acquirenti c’era un signore non più giovane, sua moglie ed un altra Signora che posso solo presumere forse la sorella o cognata poi il geometra, che parlava poco e non sorrideva mai ma continuavo a fare I suoi disegni. Firmati, con l’impronta del pollice ed inchiostro rosso tre copie di documenti, fatte fotocopie delle carte d’identità di tutti, pinzate insieme ai disegni del geometra alla quale sono state date dei soldi per pagare la burocrazia amministrativa sono tutti andati via dandosi appuntamento entro le 16,00, si spera. Siamo andati ad ispezionare il nuovo terreno. Andrà comunque consolidato, sempre risaia era. Poi I piani e preventivo per la costruzione delle nuove aule delle quale abbiamo disperatamente bisogno dall’anno scorso quando la scuola statale ha passato da fare lezioni divisi fra mattina e pomeriggio a fare tutti alla mattina lasciandoci con 80/100 bambini da sistemare nel solo pomeriggio. Poi la realizzazione, ma prima e soprattutto la raccolta dei fondi! Appena primo delle 16,00 e tornato Il geometra e l’oramai ex-proprietarie del terreno. Documenti e soldi sono scambiati di mano, io e Solida ci siamo abbracciati dandoci appuntamento a PP per cena e adesso AVANTI…… / But the biggest event was the arrival from Phnom Penh of Solida a friend os Sokkea and a long time friend for Shade for Children. She had come to conclude the purchase of the land that borders with ours as well as an adjoining lot. Practically she bought the land then sold us half of the lot that boarders with ours.it sounds complicated but it isn’t really. But the bureaucracy was, even though it was extremely fast. I was given permission to assist. Together with Solida and Sokkea as buyers was a not so young man, his wife, another lady who might have been his sister or sister-in-law and a surveyor who didn’t talk much, never smiled just continued his drawings. Signed, with a red thumb imprint three copies of documents, photocopies made of everybodies identity cards, all clipped together with the surveyors drawings he was given some money to pay for the bureaucratic administration everybody went away with an appointment by 4pm, one hopes. We went to inspect the new land. It will need to be consolidated, it was a rice paddy! Followed by  plans and estimates for the building of the new classrooms which we have badly been in need of since last year when the state school passed from having lessons divided between morning and afternoon to everybody in the morning leaving us with between 80/100 kids to cater for in the afternoon. Then realising the project but before that and above all, fundraising! Just before 4pm the surveyor arrived and the by now ex-owner of the land. Documents and money changed hands, Solida and I exchanged a hug and an appointment for supper together in Pp and  now ONWARD ….
