Qui da noi la Pasqua. In Cambogia il Capodanno Khmer (Chuol Chnam Khmae). Tempo di festa. Sicuramente più lunga quella in Cambogia. Ufficialmente il Capodanno Khmer quest’anno inizia il 14 aprile e termina il 16 aprile, ma di fatto saranno dieci giorni di festa, da questo weekend fino al prossimo. Tempo di ritrovo per le famiglie e di regali per i bambini. Anche se quest’anno la tradizione del Khmer New Year sarà condizionata dal Covid 19, che limiterà, o almeno dovrebbe limitare, gli spostamenti. / We have Easter here. In Cambodia it’ time for Khmer New Year (Chuol Chnam Khmae). Holiday time. Certainly longer in Cambodia than in Italy. Officially, Khmer New Year this year starts on April 14 and ends on April 16, but in fact it will be ten days of celebration, from this weekend until next. Meeting time for families and gifts for children. Although this year the Khmer New Year tradition will be conditioned by Covid 19, which will limit, or at least should limit, travel.

I lavori presso il nostro Centro a Domnak Chamboak sono proseguiti spediti anche questa settimana, e le foto qui sotto ne sono la più evidente testimonianza. Adesso ci sarà la pausa del Khmer New Year e quindi tutto si fermerà per una decina di giorni. I lavori devono necessariamente procedere rapidi perchè la stagione secca si avvia alla conclusione. Con maggio potrebbe anche già arrivare il monsone, quindi arrivare ad allora senza aver portato la costruzione al tetto potrebbe rappresentare un problema. Ma ormai il clima anche in questi Paesi è diventato strano ed erratico e non ci sono più regole chiare come era anni addietro, quando il monsone lo potevi quasi cronometrare sia per il momento dell’arrivo nella stagione che nelle sue manifestazioni giornaliere. / The work at our Centre in Domnak Chamboak continued this week, and the photos below are the clearest evidence of this. Now there will be the Khmer New Year break and then everything will stop for about ten days. The work must necessarily proceed quickly because the dry season is coming to an end. With May the monsoon may already arrive, so getting to that time without having brought the construction to the roof could be a problem. But now the climate has become strange and erratic also in these countries and there are no longer clear rules as there were years ago, when the monsoon could almost be timed both for the time of arrival in the season and in its daily events.

Il nuovo edificio ha ormai preso forma e se ne distingue chiaramente la struttura. Dobbiamo dire che, dopo avere aspettato tanto, non vediamo l’ora di vederlo completato e l’entusiasmo sale di mattone in mattone postato dai nostri operai. / The new building has now taken shape and its structure is clearly distinguishable. A questo punto, con le festività ormai in corso, il prossimo aggiornamento sarà verso la fine di aprile. Chissà dove saremo arrivati per allora. Eccoci ancora qui per un ulteriore update sull’andamento della costruzione delle nuove aule nel nostro Centro Diurno di Domnak Chamboak, provincia di Kep, Cambogia. / Here we are again for a further update on the progress of the construction of the new classrooms in our Day Centre in Domnak Chamboak, Kep province, Cambodia.

Il tempo si mantiene stabile al bello e quindi la costruzione può proseguire spedita. Di volta in volta le foto che ci arrivano dal nostro team cambogiano, mostrano evidenti progressi. / The weather remains stable on nice and warm and therefore the construction can continue at full speed. Each time the new photos that we receive from our Cambodian team show a clear progress.

Nel frattempo a causa del Coronavirus il Centro è ancora chiuso all’accesso in gruppo dei bambini, così come le scuole. Lo staff si sta adoperando per preparare i compiti da consegnare a casa ai bambini e così pure per predisporre la consegna periodica dei materiali, che verrà fatta nei prossimi giorni, casa per casa. Materiale per l’igiene personale e derrate alimentari questa volta. / In the meantime, due to the Coronavirus, the Center is still closed to group access for children, as well as schools. The staff is working to prepare the homework to be delivered to the children at home and also to prepare the periodic delivery of materials, which will be done in the coming days, door to door. Personal hygiene materials and food this time.

Per fortuna la virulenza del Covid-19 sembra molto più bassa in questi Paesi caldi. Al momento sulla base delle notizie ufficiali le persone colpite sono nell’ordine del centinaio, di cui una buona fetta stranieri. Che continui pure a fare caldo se il nostro nemico virus lo soffre così tanto, anche perchè se in Cambogia succedesse qualcosa di simile a quello che è successo qui in Italia la cosa assumerebbe caratteristiche ancor più drammatiche, vista la carenza di presidi ospedalieri adeguatamente attrezzati. /

Fortunately the virulence of Covid-19 seems much lower in these hot countries. At the moment, according to the official news, the people affected are in the order of a hundred, of which a good number are foreigners. Let it continue to be hot if our enemy virus suffers it so much, because if something similar to what happened here in Italy were to happen in Cambodia, it would take on even more dramatic characteristics, given the lack of adequately equipped hospital facilities.

Incrociamo le dita e aspettiamo che anche in Cambogia si possano riaprire le scuole, e così anche il nostro Centro, per la ripresa di una vita normale. / Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait for schools to reopen in Cambodia too, as well as our Centre, for the return to a normal life.
