Dopo due anni di attesa e un anno di raccolta fondi, finalmente giovedì scorso 24 Gennaio è stato perfezionato l’acquisto del terreno per l’ampliamento del nostro Centro a Domnak Chamboak in Cambogia. / After two years of waiting and a year of fundraising, finally last Thursday, January 24th, the purchase of land for the extension of our Centre in Domnak Chamboak in Cambodia was finalized.

Un grandissimo grazie a tutti quelli che hanno contribuito a questo primo importante passo per l’ampliamento del Centro. / A big thank you to all those who contributed to this first important step for the enlargement of the Centre.

Durante la missione del presidente Franco Farao di fine Novembre/inizio Dicembre erano state avviate le verifiche e le trattative per l’acquisto di un terreno adiacente al Centro. Purtroppo abbiamo trovato la sorpresa di prezzi quasi triplicati rispetto a tre anni fa, incremento legato al forte intervento di capitali cinesi sul mercato immobiliare e dei terreni in tutte le aree prossime alle coste della Cambogia. / During President Franco Farao’s mission at the end of November/beginning of December, checks and negotiations for the purchase of the land adjacent to the Centre were started. Unfortunately we found the surprise of prices almost tripled compared to three years ago, an increase linked to the strong intervention of Chinese capital in the real estate and land market in all areas near the coast of Cambodia. 

Il terreno che tre anni fa costava 10.000 USD (circa 1.200 mq.), ci veniva ora offerto con una richiesta iniziale di 30.000 USD. La trattativa finale è poi arrivata a 24.000 USD che ci ha portato a condividere l’acquisto con Solida, una cara amica del nostro responsabile di progetto Sokkea. Anche a Solida da tutti noi un grandissimo grazie per il supporto che ci sta dando./ The land that three years ago cost 10,000 USD (about 1,200 sq. m.) was now being offered to us with an initial request of 30,000 USD. The final negotiation then came down to 24,000 USD, which led us to share the purchase with Solida, a close friend of our project manager Sokkea. Also to Solida from all of us a big thank you for the support you are giving us.

Abbiamo quindi stanziato 12.000 USD per l’acquisto dei 600 mq adiacenti la nostra attuale proprietà, con l’accordo di poter costruire una strada accessibile ad auto e mezzi per entrare nel Centro. Finora avevamo solo un accesso che consentiva di arrivarci a piedi, in bici o al massimo in moto. / We have therefore allocated 12,000 USD for the purchase of 600 square meters adjacent to our current property, with the agreement of being able to build a road accessible to cars and vehicles to enter the Center. Until now we had only one access that allowed us to get there on foot, by bike or at most by motorcycle.

Sul lato sul quale si affaccia il nuovo appezzamento presto verrà aperta la nuova strada che dal villaggio consentirà ai ragazzi di raggiungere la scuola secondaria, senza dover andare sulla strada principale Kep-Kampot, sempre molto trafficata e quindi pericolosa. / On the side where the new plot overlooks, a new road will soon be opened that will allow the children to reach the secondary school from the village, without having to go on the main road Kep-Kampot, always very busy and therefore dangerous.

Questo ci darà modo di avere una più agevole via di accesso al nostro Centro. / This will give us an easier way to access our Centre.

La porzione di terreno appartenente a Solida, che è tra la nostra proprietà e il fronte strada, verrà almeno in un primo tempo lasciato a disposizione del Centro, dei bambini e dei loro genitori per la coltivazione di ortaggi. / The portion of land belonging to Solida, which is between our property and the street front, will be initially left at the disposal of the Centre, children and their parents for the cultivation of vegetables.

Rimane fermo il progetto di procedere con ulteriori raccolte fondi finalizzate alla costruzione di nuove aule, necessarie ad ospitare tutti i circa 100 bambini che ogni pomeriggio vengono a frequentare le lezioni integrative di lingua Khmer e le lezioni di Inglese al nostro Centro. / Our project remains unchanged, in order to proceed with further fundraising aimed at the construction of new classrooms, necessary to accommodate all the about 100 children who come every afternoon to attend the additional Khmer language lessons and English classes at our Centre, .

Nel frattempo, in attesa di poter disporre dei fondi necessari, è stata avviata la costruzione di una tettoia/aula provvisoria, destinata ad ospitare la classe che negli ultimi tempi era collocata sul retro del centro, esposta al sole durante il bel tempo e costretta a fuggire all’interno quando si verificava uno scroscio di pioggia. / In the meantime, waiting for the necessary funds, the construction of a temporary canopy classroom has been started, destined to house the class that in recent times was located at the back of the centre, exposed to the sun during good weather and forced to flee inside when there was a sudden downpour of rain.
